Do you offer automatic lessons as well as manual lessons?

Sutherland Driving School offers driving lessons in automatic cars only.

Is your car dual controlled?

Yes, our car is fitted with dual controls for your safety and have been fully inspected and verified by the Service NSW.

Where do I meet the instructor for lessons?

Normally our Driving Instructor will come to your home, but alternate addresses like school, work or train station can be arranged. Provided the pick up and drop off location is within the areas Sutherland Driving School operates in. Please make these arrangements in advance with your instructor - we aim to make learning to drive as easy and convenient for you as possible.

What will I need to bring with me for my driving lessons?

  • Current and valid driving licence
  • Learner Driver Log Book
  • Suitable shoes (A flat and enclosed shoe is recommended)
  • Your glasses or contact lenses (if you wear them)
  • Mobile phones must be switched off during the driving lesson

How long is the gift voucher valid for?

Gift voucher is valid for 3years from the issue date.

Do you offer 3hours for 1hour log book lessons?

Yes, a learner driver who completes a 1 hour structured driving lesson with a licensed driving instructor can record 3 hours driving experience in their Learner Driver Log Book. While there is no minimum requirement for structured lesson hours, you are only allowed a maximum of 10 structured lesson hours to be recorded as 30 hours in your log-book. Night lessons are recorded as 1 night hour and 2 day hours.

Am I able to learn in my own car?

Yes, you can. However you need to have your first lesson in one of our cars for your instructor to assess your driving abilities. If your instructor deems you safe to drive your own car you can have your next lesson in your own car as long as it is roadworthy and fully insured.

How much time do I need to give if I want to cancel a driving lesson?

If you need to cancel or re-arrange a lesson at least 48 hours notice will be required for single lessons of up to two hours duration. Longer lessons need a minimum of four days notice. Failure to give notice will result in a valid claim for an equivalent value in compensation (i.e., a cancellation fee will be charged or credited). If a student fails to have their current drivers licence on them, the full lesson fee will be charged and payable for the lesson. Please see our Terms and Conditions page for more details.

Am I covered by insurance?

Yes, it is very important when choosing a driving school that you know that you are covered. At Sutherland Driving School, we are fully insured and we have passed police and working with children checks.

Do you provide a car for a driving test?

Yes, we provide a Sutherland Driving School car for the driving test at a reasonable cost. Cost of the Driving Test is $190 (Pick up 1.0hr before driving test, use my car for the driving test and drop off back from Service NSW office).
